Good for God

How does God know if we are good or bad? Can he see in our soul?

Honey he cannot only see your soul,  he created it.

The Bible is full of verses about the judgement by God. This can only mean that he can see into our souls to know our attitudes and motives. We are told to love Him with all of our heart and soul and mind (my paraphrase). He would only expect this if He knew if we did it or not. So he can see into our souls. I only offer this one following scripture in support of my answer, Hebrews 4:12-13.

(Heb 4:12-13 NIV) For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Penetrates means that it goes into our souls.

'...judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart...' means that he convicts us of our motives. God could only do this if he what our attitudes are.

'Nothing ... is hidden for God's sight.' has an obvious meaning.

Need I say more? God can see into our souls. To Him, and to Him only, must we give account.

Hi,

Although there are many passages of scripture that talks about God and our soull, I pick a few that I thought were relevant.

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.   - 1 Thessalonians 5:23

When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held.   - Revelation 6:9

But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave,   For He shall receive me. Selah  - Psalms 49:15

Now when she came to the man of God at the hill, she caught him by the feet, but Gehazi came near to push her away. But the man of God said, “Let her alone; for her soul is in deep distress, and the Lord has hidden it from me, and has not told me.”   - 2 Kings 4:27

I often tell people that God looks at us from the inside out, while the devil looks at us from the outside in.

Hope this helps

Jeff

Great answers by others.  Something else to consider - God has granted some very holy people the ability to read souls as well.  For example, St. Catherine of Siena (died 1380) was able to smell the "odor of sin" in a person (she described it as rotting flesh).  And she would tell people of their sins, even people she had never met before.

Another, St. John Bosco, would tell people about their sins when they didn't confess completely.  Same thing with Padre Pio (died 1968).  So, if these saints were able to read people's souls, it's a pretty good bet that God can as well.
