When I read your question, the rhetorical aspect is what struck me. As in, how could one person solve global warming. The fact is that it is going to take a lot of people individually doing something to move the rest of the world into action. Simply asking your question on Yedda will have some degree of impact. Think about what else you can do.
In my life, I have a crappy carbon footprint. In the last six months or so, I have begun doing things to reduce it. For example, I have installed motion detection light switches in a few areas, switched to high efficiency light bulbs, stopped using the heat dry cycle on our dishwasher, etc. I also started a wiki for a community-created "Green Office" standard. I watched "An Inconvenient Truth" and have passed the message to others. I am exploring the new Hydrogen-based motorcycle (due out this summer) called the ENV. We are taking our family recycling efforts more seriously.
