Giving Meds To A Cat

How can I give me my cat a pill? He had his eye removed yesterday and I cannot get him to take his pain medications. I have tried putting it in his food, putting it in his mouth and using a needle to squirt water into his mouth so he would swallow it, but he spits it out, and gets very angry.

When my parents had that trouble with their cat they were given a special tool for putting it down the cats throat. It was kind of similar to a syringe, but designed for tablets. So I would reccomend asking your vet clinic.

Try crushing the pill up and putting it in some milk.  Also they say when you put the pill in the cat's mouth if you blow in his face it will cause them to swallow.  Good luck!  I have cats and it is not easy to get them to do anything they don't want to

There is a gadget that helps with that, your local pet store may carry it, or your vet. For my cat, i have to put butter or olive oil on the pill and push it as far down the throat as I can get it, then i close the mouth and blow on his face hard. It kind of startles him and makes him swallow. Cats in general seemed to be a lot harder to give a pill to than dogs! Good luck!

I pill my cat twice a day. I have found to approach her gently with a good frame of mind, like I am giving her a treat, as appossed to an aproach of I am being mean or doing something to her that she will not like. I strongly feel that they pick up on the energy that you put out.  I try to approach her when she is sleeping and gently place my thumb and forfinger on each side of her mouth at the very back. The slight pressure causes her to open her mouth. I place the pill at the back of her throat, close her mouth and gently stroke her throat to cause a swallow reflex. Blowing gently in their nose with their mouth closed will also cause a swallow reflex. I am not always successful. I sometimes have to hold her or have someone else hold her while I give her meds to her. When I first began the meds I bought the "soft" kitty treats and molded them around the pill. That worked for a while. They also sell a piller. It is a device that you put the pill in the end of. It enables you to get the pill to the back of the throat easier. Good Luck

Do you guys think that vets are overrated? Should SWG vets be considered only if they've kept with it even after the NGE? Or should vets be recognized even if they quit during or at the end
