Girls was my sister right to defend herself in this situation?

My little sister Amy whose 15 was at school Monday and a 17 year old guy grabbed her bum under her skirt. Well she turned round and hauled off and kicked him hard in the testicles she had heavy shoes on as she is a goth. Anyway the guy fell down and cried. The teacher see this and pulled her into the office by which time the lad was puking on the floor. My parents went to the school friday. The principle decided that a one week suspension for Amy is appropriate, however the boy is also going to have a one week suspension put on his record although he is unlikely to be able to return to school during the weeks suspension due to the extent of his injuries. The boy had surgery and the doctors repaired his left testicle that had been ruptured, although due to the damage sustained the testicle will not be able to produce any sperm. The boys right testicle had to be removed due to it having multiple ruptures. My parents think that this should be the end of the matter, however they don't know if the boy's parents will do some legal action or not and are worried about that. Amy is not happy at being suspended as she feels that it was self defense and their were people who saw the incident that backed her story up.
I do agree with Amy in the respect that the boys injuries are as a direct result of his actions and that she should not be held responsable for injuries he suffered.
1. Do you think she did the right thing?
2. Would your answer to question 1 be different if the boy did not suffer permanent damage?
3. What would you have done?
4. Have you been in a similar situation? What did you do?
5. Do you feel bad for the guy or do you think its his own fault and what he deserved?
6. How would you feel if it was your daughter in this situation?
7. How would you feel if it was your son in this situation?

Hi,

Amy did the right thing.  She tried to defend herself.  It was not her fault if he suffered some bodily injuries.  That would have taught him a lesson to restrain his hands when he had the urge to touch someone else.  He would have been better off if he just touched himself.  He would still have his testicle.Laughing

If you think things can't get worse it's probably only because you lack sufficient imagination.

I think the severity of his injuries are a bit much for the infraction, however, I seriously doubt that your sister intentionally hurt him to that point.  I think it was a reaction on her part.  Good for her for establishing a boundary, bad for her that it was to this extreme extent.  I would say that there is a good chance that this family will sue for damages.  I am assuming this boy learned his lesson and doubt that he will grab another girl!

I think that when we are in a position to defend ourselves, we can't always determine  what the extent of the injuries are going to be and that's the risk someone takes when they make the decision to assualt someone... and yes, I do consider a male putting his hands on a female...assualt.

If it was my son, he would be on restriction and I would have a very serious talk with him about HIS behavior.

No she absolutely was not right in what she did, what she did was appalling.

In such circumstances, a teacher should have been informed of the offenders actions, and the problem dealt with. She should not have take the law into her own hands, but if she did she should have applied a measured response - such as perhaps a slap.

This fella was wrong to do what he did, but he did not deserve to go through such sever trauma, and be left sterilised.

Look at it from another perspective, no matter what a girl did in school, she should not deserve to be kicked so hard in the abdomen that she should be left in agony, with permanent damage to her womb and unable to have children. Would that be fair? Hardly, so why the double standard?

Not only should your sister be expecting ensuing legal action, but she deserves it.
