Meeting my future inlaws for the first time who live in SYRIA. Would like to bring gifts (male and female) that are popular items from the USA and are not available to purchase in the middle east. Suggestions?

Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons.
What I would do is look in the Yellow pages and see what they do have. Then you can bring a gift from the States that is not available in Syria.
