They do the work, but do not receive the credit.

They are unseen, hence the 'ghost' in "ghostwriter."

Dear brenda,

a gost writer edits or writes articles, poems, novels, etc for a famous writer other than his,or herself, using the famous writers name, hired by the famous writer, using his or her name while remaining anonymous.

I hope this answers your question.

A ghost writer writes for another person and gets paid for his work. You can hire a ghostwriter to write an ebook or an article, but you can put your name at the byline. Also the copyrights will belong to you. I am not very good at writing articles; so I usually hire ghostwriters to put my ideas into words. I use http://www.freelancewritingdesk.com.
