Getting family movies onto PC/DVD - Recommendations ?

Looking for advice on hw and/or sw for a home PC. Others must have done this already. I've seen hw at CompUSA etc for hooking up VHS players to the PC to edit/burn to DVD. Anyone with experience doing so ? I have old family videos that I'd like to burn to DVD and mail to family aorund the country. We have VHS-C , VHS, old reels ( for a projector ) etc. Any

recommendations ( other than mailing it all way to someone else to have them do it ).
I've seen Video-Oh, Turtle beach and others - what's the
best way to go for a novice video creator ?
Ease of use is VERY important

Thanks,
Bobb

4 thumbs up

from my experience it all depends what you want to do.

if you want to start editing the films then hook it up to your computer and use any dvd ( I use sonic's Vegas) software.

However, if you want to copy the vhs to dvd I would go and buy a dvd/vhs recorder and just do a 1:1 copy of every old vhs.

It is the easiest way.

and of course you can send it (just google it) to conversion stores but that's too risky because you can't control who has your tapes.

I hope it helps

Pinnacle Studio for editing and DVD or CD burning (I am using version 9 but

version 10 is out and has some new features). Dazzle DVC90 for video and
audio capture (Dazzle is now owned by Pinnacle). See their website at

http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Products+List.htm

The Dazzle connects via USB2.0.

I originally bought the Dazzle and it came with a stripped down version of
Studio but with upgrade to the full version for around $20. Turned out to
be a pretty good deal.

Be sure you have sufficient speed and memory. Video editing takes a bunch.
Especially during the capture phase.

As for the old movie reels, have a commercial lab convert them to VHS. You
can't do it nearly as good at home.
