The ALL KNOWING ONEInnocent

I am not applying, however, I do have a great recreational activity for the seniors. I personally introduced this craft to my parents facility, and WOW what a hit it was!! I call it, Woodwork is fun work when you build your own coffin!!!

Smile, it's contagious!

There are professional people in this field. Program director; activities director; program coordinator; recreation director; coach. They have many titles. But, in general they all do the same thing. Take charge of special activities for different age groups. Volunteers can also teach / instruct class on subject of special interest to them. However, if they in any way care for a patient they must have a license to do so. I believe this falls under the category of physical therapy. Hope this helps.

Hello Martha,

Yes, there is a real field, and the people employed are usually working with the elderly in various areas...Such as Nursing Homes, Assisted Living facilities, Senior Citizen Centers, and Adult Day Care Centers...The Degree is usually an associates, or in some States, a certificate only...But, either way, they need some formal education for the title...The Therapeutic Recreation Director, or TRD, is in charge of the overall activities of the elderly population...Depending on the population, and cognitive functioning, the program is designed to meet the needs of the individuals involved, and handles it accordingly...In some cases, different levels are going on simultaneously...And, depending on the amount of adults in your day care center, you may need to have a TRD, and an assistant...Good luck in your search...Please hire the right person for this very special field, a compassionate person with an abundance of patience is needed for "our gems" of society...But, then again, the people who go into this field are usually more than likely kind and patient overall...I hope this helped...All the best to you~
