Georges Marciano purchases $16.2 million diamond

I heard that Georges Marciano, one of the founders of Guess, bought a white diamond for $16.2 million. I was wondering what was the most expensive diamond ever purchased?

What comes around goes around.

In May 17 of 1995 there was a Diamond sold at an auction that was rated to be absolutly flawless. The 100.10 carat pear-shaped Diamond was rated a "D" in color, which is the rating that is only given to the finest white diamonds. In short, its the best. It was sold in Switzerland to Shaikh Ahmed Fetaihi for one of his Jewelry shops in Saudi Arabia. Sold for $16,548,750.00 makes it the most expensive ever according to the Guiness World Records.

Hi,

Interestingly enough the diamond that tre1129 mentioned was the highest price paid for a diamond but it wasn't the highest price paid per carat. The highest price paid per carat was actually paid by George Marciano at the purchase you mentioned. The price was 191,980$.

Another thing to think about is that the if sold, the Hope diamond would probably brake the record with its 42.5 carat.

Take care.
