Was he as controversial as I think he was?

He didn't die because he was anti religious if that's what you're asking.
But yes, he was the sort of comedian many people would sneer at, and argue with, and increase his popularity by explaining how no one should see him etc.

For people of my generation, George Carlin will always be remembered as a person who was controversial and broke barriers. You either hated him or loved him for what he stood for. I always loved his work and I will miss him.
