George Bernard Shaw was a very famous Irish playwright. His plays often contained socialist themes, or criticisms on the exploitation of the workers. He was awarded a Nobel prize for literature, as well as an Oscar for his work on the film Pygmalion. He also wrote novels, pamphlets (mainly addressing social problems) and critiques of literary works. His work was renowned for a very cutting sense of humour.
