Genealogy Question-Parent Links

On any genealogy program, such as PAF, Family Tree Maker, or Ancestral Quest:

If the husband of the Mother is not the biological Father, but her Husband's name is on the birth certificate, do you count that child as under the Mother's husband with the adopted parent link type, and also under the Mother and biological Father(not married but linked together with the child) as biological?

Would you maybe count the Mother's husband as the stepfather with the step-parent link type on programs that have that, since the Mother was married to him at the time of the child's birth?

That would be up to you.  What I did for my family...my 2 brothers and a sister were adopted by our step-father...so I showed them adopted under him and my mother's marriage (of course mom remained biological) but as biological with my mother and father's marriage.

If the biological father was never in the picture it may not matter.  Think of this...how many times was a child born in the 1700 or 1800's or even 1900's where the mother never admitted the man who the child called daddy wasn't really the father.  To me family has to do with support and love.

I've referred to parenting this way (I was raised by my dad's half-sis and her hubby not my parents).

A father is the sperm donar...a Dad is the one who provides and a daddy is the one is also a pal...a man can be all three or just one...it depends on the circumstances and the choices.

A mother is any woman that has conceived (even if the child is a miscarriage or an abortion) ...a Mom is the one that provides and a mommy is the one that also plays.  Then there are the MOTHERS who well also get called a B**ch frequently because they are such strong willed women.  And then there is ma who is there for more than just her own offspring.

Genealogy is about facts. I would list the person with the biological parent,no matter what the birth certificate says and in the notes sections I would make a note of it.
