I live in a duplex ( i am in the upper unit ) and in my unit it has a gas fireplace...I just turned it back on to take the chill out of my place..i keep hearing LOUD noises..almost like the metal was bent in and was bending out. It is loud enough to make me jump every time. Should i be worried, should i keep it off, is this normal..Some one please help me understand this. email me back at sexy(dot)nixxx(at)gmail(dot)com

I would suppose that what you are hearing is the metal contracting in size as the fireplace cools. I've never heard that described as a bang, though.
There is a phenomena called extinction pop that can happen when a gas burner shuts off, but that wont happen more than once.
You should probably have the fireplace checked out by a repairman to be sure there isn't some hazardous problem.
