Garlic (specifically the component allicin) is a natural anti-biotic, anti-viral. anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, lowers cholesterol, kills many of the critters that cause inflammation and thins thick/sticky blood.  Many of these properties are beneficial for heart health.  Entire books have been written on garlic so I won't do that here.
