Love is the battery of life....

A:

Hi,

Unless they are very young, it's easy to identify who are the males and who are the females..... The males have thair sex organs at the bottom side some 1/4 (of the fish size) from the end tale.... It is a tiny "sting" (like a "thorn") thicker at the base and getting thin towards the end.  Hard to explain but once you know where to look, it's than easy.
Fish can be "fat" if they eat to much.... a pregnant fish has "rounded" shape at about the same place I described for the males....  And when she is really big there (at that place) remove her to sepearte tank (same water) with lot of plants.   Remember that she can eat the small fishes as well.  So either use a special tank used for "giving birth", or seperate the new borns quickly (they know how to hide, specially if there are many hiding places  (stones, plants, ....).
Best regards,
