GCFI receptacle not working

GCFI plug does not power appliances.  I checked the receptacle with a multimeter and the hot wire and ground produce a circuit, the neutral and ground produce a circuit, but the hot and neutral do not produce a circuit.  What would cause this?

Nuetral and ground should not produce a circuit. Only hot to ground or hot to nuetral. Try a voltage meter That shows actual readings or numeric values. But it soounds like the nuetral has come disconnected somewher before the gfci

The answer to my question provided the solution.  I traced the circuit and found that a neutral wire was loose in one of the recepticles before the bathroom outlets.  When I corrected that, the bathroom outlets worked again.

Better have it checked through electrical test equipment. Rent these materials to know the real cause.
