Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

A:

It can depend on how closely you knew the deceased.  If you were very close, you might want to attend the memorial, which tends to be more personal.  On the other hand, if you are closer to the survivors than the deceased, they might appreciate your support at the viewing.
