Either of the two are correct if combine together. Actually, tomato is a vegetable or fruit vegetable.
Vegetables are classified into different types, they are classified as; leafy, fruit, stem, root, rhizomes, runners, flowers, bulbs.

Tomatoes are fruit and vegetables. actually tomatoes have different varieties, tomato fruits that are round, big, and can be eaten raw. Tomato vegetables smaller than tomato fruit and usually is used for processing in cooking.
