yes, some of my ex's are my best friends. i mean more than likely they know everything about you and can help you if you need it. i told my boyfriend when we got together that i was going to remain friends with them and that he better not even try to tell me different because i would boot him out the door real fast!

When life presents a challenge, take your shot.

It totally depends.  I would say that you're better off without the friendship.  It's almost never healthy and the chances that your boyfriend/girlfriend will approve of this friendship is also slim.  I have tried this and it almost never works.  Enjoy what you have now and try to put your past behind you.

It depends on how your partner feels about you being friends with your ex. If your partner disapproves of it, leave your ex alone! If they are ok with it, it's ok as long as the 2 are really just friends.

Be honest and be true to yourself.

I think it's not a good idea to be too friendly with an ex. That's why they are an ex, they belong in the past. If you meet your ex in a place unexpectedly, then just be polite, nothing more.
