A common misconception is that because information is public it should be free, some even quote the freedom of information, but this merely says we have free access. In most cases there are administration and labor costs, administration etc. And then putting "free" information online takes time and money.
The offers of free public court records information that you do find online (if they are indeed free and don't end up with a link to a paid search site) are usually connected to such small data bases that no in-depth or country wide search can be performed - perhaps curiosity seekers are satisfied.
Reputable private records companies who do charge for their search services take the time and money to gather information from a large pool of government and private resources both online and offline i.e. court records, county records, arrest records, inmate records, marriage divorce records, phone records etc. and throughout all the states countrywide. They sort and order the info, and finally upload it to the web.
Because they gather information from such a wide pool of resources this means you stand a much better chance of finding up to date, complete and accurate information - compared to manually searching online all the "free court records resources" for each county and each state.
