Free Court Records?

Free court records online ?

Is it possible to find free public court records online ? I have already tried  a couple of online resources that advertise "free court records searches" however most either end up requiring a fee or otherwise the search area is so small (perhaps just a county) that the info is difficult to use.

Do you know of an online resource / database where one can search free court records online and countrywide i.e. throughout all the states - so as to get more complete and reliable search results?

Thanks for any info you can supply.

Sorry, but it's not going to be easy to find searches for free court records online with much possibility of depth or comprehensibility:

A common misconception is that public information should be free, some people even quote the freedom of information act to back this up. However in most cases this is simply not true; offline there are administration and labor costs, and putting "free" information online takes time and money.

The offers of free public court records information that you do find online (if they are indeed free and don't end up with a link to a paid search site) are usually connected to such small data bases that no in-depth or country wide search can be performed - perhaps curiosity seekers are satisfied.

The reputable private records companies who do charge for their search services take the time and money to gather information from a large pool of government and private resources both online and offline i.e. court records, county records, arrest records, inmate records, marriage divorce records, phone records etc.  and throughout all the states countrywide. They sort and order the info, and finally upload it to the web.

Because they gather information from such a wide pool of resources this means you stand a much better chance of finding up to date, complete and accurate information - compare this to having to search manually yourself through all the "free court records resources" for each county and each state.

It's for this reason that many people prefer to use the private court records searches sites, including myself. It's convenient, very quick, accurate, and as I stated before, it's certainly a lot quicker than searching through all the little sites offering free court records checks oneself  - plus, you have peace of mind knowing that no stone was left unturned, so to speak.

After much trial and error with various online court records websites I use Gov court records . They have given me the most professional service, they have a massive database of court records and they process accurate reports very quickly.

I hope I have shed a little light on free court records searches online.

Good luck with your searches.

I think Marula has a good point about free court records searches - if I'm going to need something as important as court records checks and then I would like to be absolutely positive that I'm getting the most up to date and comprehensive information as possible.

Just my opinion.

I'm glad I just signed in here, I will be needing some information about free public court records in the future.

I sometimes use "Find Law" but yes, the information is very limited.

That's a nice link Marula - Gov court records , I will tell my boss about it, he has been looking for something like this.

How can I obtain free public court records and transcripts?

I need court records and transcripts from a federal fraud case which took place in 2003. What are my options for obtaining public court records?

To get free court records you can follow these two steps:

Online search: Type in the county you live in or want records for and county recorder. Public records or documents. Depends on the county, you may only be able to get records of liens and judgments or you can get criminal and civil court info.

Or you can go to the courthouse. Depends on the county. Some are completely free and some are free to search but have to pay to get physical copy. Also juvenile court or family court may not release info.

Good Luck!
