Fork in the Road

A man is walking through a town where the people either always tell the truth or always tell a lie. He comes to a fork in the road and does not know which way to go to get to the place he needs to go. What question could he ask a townsperson to get the correct direction?

Mr.Jqna,  What if the townsperson tells you no, I cannot walk with you?  Then what would you do?

Sometimes we put up walls not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.

A man came upon a fork in the road where one road went to Truths and the other to Lies. The man wanted to go to Truths.  He simply asked the townsperson "where are you from?"  The individeual telling the truth would give him the right road (to Truths).  If the townsperson were from  Lies, he would also have to point him in the direction of Truths, since he couldn't actually tell the truth which was that he was from Lies.  This would NOT work in your scenario since you're not going to Truths, so I have to admit, I don't know the answer to your question, but it brought back memories of this from years ago.  Thanks for posting . I had forgotten about this and don't even know why it's still in my memory.  Hope someone else can answer this.

Fred, is this a question you are actually seeking an answer to, or do you know the answer and will let us know soon?

Uri193,  You already answered the question!  Reread your previous post.  I think you are correct with your question of "where are you from".

I am under the impression that the town that the man is passing through is filled with both truthful people and liars and needs to know a way to get one of the townspeople to tell him how to get to his destination. The question does not state where he’s trying to go. Does the man even know of the situation with the liars and those who speak the truth? I am usually good with this type of stuff, but this question is killing me. AAARRRGGHHHH!!!!

The scenario I gave would only work IF the man was going to the town. If he was going to somewhere such as a diner or movie theater, it wouldn't work.  The question above only says the man is going to "a place."  There could be another answer--I'm waiting to see if anyone has any other ideas.  I love these challanges.

Anna did you notice our "friend" is deleted?  Wonder who did that, her or YEDDA because of her post to you.  She'll probably be back soon with a different identity--I can hardly wait!!!
