Foreign Domain Name Ranking in the U.S.

I am helping to promote an Israeli artist's site http://haggadah.co.il but I am finding it is an uphill battle in ranking him well in Google. How much would changing the domain name to a .com affect his ranking?

changing to .com will probably be easier, however you will have to start from the beginning in your SEO efforts

Being a .il domain it would be diffcult to rank higher in US, you can either change it to .com or .us to rank better or if you have authority back links for the optimized page from US web sites for your existing domain can increase the chances to rank better in US.
