I have a neice that moved here from Oklahoma who just changed her driver's license to Texas. She used my address as a permanent address because she gets her mail here. She is actually staying with a boyfriend. My insurance company is trying to make me put her on my policy because her address is listed as the same as mine. Is this legal?
I'll search, while you wait.
Hi,
Yes it is legal, however, I don't know the full story as to how she obtained a Texas license. Did she show proof of insurance at the DMV, has the proof expired, or did someone trust her enough to bring in the proof at a later date when she changed her address to Texas? Now, it appears that she doesn't have any insurance and because she lives at your address, the insurance company wants proof of insurance for all drivers in the household. If she gets her own insurance, I'm sure it would be proof enough, and the insurance company would not bother you to add her to your policy. A similar question to yours is posted below and it was found in the faq section of the Texas Department of Insurance website:
Can I get a driver´s license if I don´t have an auto policy?
No. All applicants for a Texas driver´s license must show proof of insurance to get a driver´s license. You´ll have to show proof of insurance regardless of whether you´re getting a driver´s license for the first time, renewing your driver´s license, or getting a Texas driver´s license after moving from another state.

I do not think that it is completely legal. I think you should discuss with your consultant.
