Food coloring

I just noticed that the Quaker Squares dry cereal I serve my family for breakfast contains yellow and yellow food coloring. Are they dangerous to health?

RE: Food coloring

In the past food coloring was a bit dangerous, there were a few cases of addictions in the last few centuries. In 1906 the United States Food and Drugrestricted synthetic food colors to those that could be tested as safe. Since the 1970s the inclusion of colorants in food has received considerable scrutiny based primarily on concerns regarding the carcinogenic properties of colorants. Today manufacturers have moved toward more natural and less synthetic colorants in food.

so I really think its safe to give your family Quaker squares dry cereals.

You can probably make your own decision after reading those websites, but I do not think it is a significant amount of dye, therefore it should not harm your family. Some react to yellow food dye with a rash. That happens fairly rarely. :)

RE: Food coloring

These colors are not dangerous at all.  On the box, does it say "FD&C yellow" or something like that? if so, I think it means it can be used to color foods, and drugs both, so are safe......
