Folding Bicycle

I saw someone on the train yesterday with a folding bicycle, I'm thinking about getting  a pair too. How comfortable are they to ride?

The ride depends upon the folding bike make and can be equal to standard bikes.

Go with an alloy folder b/c they're lighter to carry. I'd buy a magnesium Aerlite-B because they weigh just 24 lbs & b/c magnesium dampens road shock so they ride smoothly. Also, the Aerlite has fenders that keep you clean and Shimano Nexus internal hubs (less maintenance or dirt). You can buy a Aerlite-B for @ $400.

Thanks Larry, cool site.

$400 is a bit expensive for me... I walk about 15 minutes from the train to my house and about 20 minutes from the train to the office, and the latter is uphill. Is there any model that could be good enough for such short rides and cost around 250-300 dollars?

Thanks again!

If you're 5'9" or less in height, I have a fabulous solution for you.

Betst Bikes is producing the Aerlite B with slightly different features (see RideTHISbike.com for exact details). To transition from the current stock quickly, they've offered brand new bikes with the old specs at just $279 including shipping. To get the price, you need to order them via RideTHISbike.com. Here's the link with the special offer:

By the way, the Kent Ultralite magnesium folding bike for $169 is also a great bargain and is perfect for short commutes. Components are not Shimano and it doesn't have fenders but it's a totally acceptable bike.

Cool, thanks Larry.

I'm 5'10"! But the Kent sounds like something I could be very happy with. I'll try to find out if it's available here in Israel.

I'll ask Kent if the bikes are available yet in Israel.

Thanks, I really appreciate your help.

I think they aren't available here. I have friends in Holland, I'm sure they can find me a pair.
