The technology for such a thing is a bit more complex than just driving a car. Imagine how long it took the car companies to reach a point where cars are very safe.
Now try thinking how long does it take to train a commertial airline pilot and until what point they actually let him/her fly the plane as a captain. It takes a long time because the damage potential is very large.
With a flying car you can take a house down if you bump into it from the air.
I think it will take a couple more years to reach to a point where the safety of such flying cars will be good enough.
In addition to that, consider the ramifications on the environment. Current commercial planes pollute quite a bit and if the skies will be filled with lots of tiny flying cars. There is a need to find a clean power source for these cars (which, of course, will need more power than you average car) as well, before mass producing them.
