Flying with 2 years old child

I'm planning a vacation with my husband and 2 year old son. He's pretty active and doesn't like to sit still.

My last trip with him 4 months ago was a nightmare, as I had to entertain him constantly.

Any tips?

Talk to him first about what you will be doing, there is a big difference in comprehension level between an infant and a two year old. If he knows what to expect it will relieve anxiety.

Make sure he has run around enough prior to getting on the plane that he won't be dealing with pent up energy. Be sure to have plenty of books, snacks, toys, etc.

The last and most important part is up to you alone.  Plan for it to be a fun adventure, a new experience that you are giving him.  Be aware of, but nor over sensitive to the passengers around you and don't let some suit who doesn't know about children ruin your trip.

My tip is to alternate with your husband and have one hour for yourself - another with your kid. At least - if its a long trip - you have something to look forward to.

A backpack full of new toys that your kid has never seen before. Bring them out one at a time and wait until the attention span for the new toy fades before bringing out the next one.

Just as important as preparing your son is preparing yourself. Having the right mental attitude will go a long way to making the trip pleasant for him and for you. If you go into this situation saying to yourself, "This is going to be difficult" or "I don't know if I can handle this." then your attitude will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. You'll be fine. Occam's practical suggestions were good ones.
