Flooring in open floor plan

I am remodeling my house.  I am making it an open floor plan with kitchen, dinning and living open to one another.  I am putting coffe stained oak wood on the floor .I want to put tile in kitchen (have a 2 and a 4 year old) will this look ok or is it better to put all wood?  What color of tile would you suggest?

Dear Margie:  I have what you are trying  to accomplish with wood flooring in my kitchen and it looks great.  My friend has a very large Livingroom, dining and installed tile in the kitchen 2 years ago.  She is now going to change the kitchen to wood flooring.  Anyway you look at it it's still a personal decision. I think whatever makes you happy is the right way to go.  Good Luck, Gerry
