Floating Wine on top of an alcoholic mixed drink

What's the trick to floating wine on top of an alcoholic mixed drink?  I'm using an 8 oz.   cocktail glass.  The directions call for me to mix the contents in a shaker with ice and then pour the red wine on top and have the red wine float on top.  I would appreciate any advice.

You have to make sure the wine you are using is less dense than the liquor your floating it on, otherwise it will sink to the bottom!  In general, wine has a density (winemakers call it specific gravity) that is only slightly more than that of water, and most liqueurs and mixers will be more dense that that.  Google liquer density chart to see the most common liquer densities.  Pick a mixer with a high density and your layered drink should come out right.  Good luck!

Check out www.wine-in-a-glass.com/wine_recipes.html for some good mixed drinks that use wine, including my favorite, Sangria!

Hope this helps.
