Fleeing the country to avoid credit card debt

I know someone who intentionally maxed out their credit card(s) by purchasing large ticket item "gifts" for family members, then left the country intending to return to collect social security benefits from the U.S. and also their country of origin.  I consider this criminal as this person has intentions of filing for bankruptcy and not ever repaying the credit company.  How can this happen?

Very simple, I do not know of any countries the United States maybe besides Canada where someone can be found and brought to justice for this type of action, again I said maybe Canada.

Morally this behavior is wrong unless there is a true hardship, what this does is that it makes it harder for honest, hardworking Americans to be offered credit, interest rates are affected by this, etc... and it is morally wrong and goes againts the very fabric of our nation.  This is wrong!

As your credit report may not follow you from the US to Canada, you can probably move there and become debt free.

Moving back, thou, to the US may be difficult if you are trying to obtain credit as your credit report may have to be accessed and the unpaid accounts may show up.

I am sure that the credit card companies are well aware of this type of thing happening and factor that into their business model, that is why they charge such a high interest rate to card holders.  They know that a certain percentage will not pay back the debts for one reason or another.  They still make very healthy profits as shown by the amount of credit card offers every one gets.
