Here's my opinion: I switched to Firefox because of the tabbing, the add-ons, and a vague sense that most pages looked or loaded better in Firefox.  I used IE6 when the pages didn't load correctly in Firefox.  However, I think that nearly all pages load well in Firefox 2.

IE7 seems a lot like Firefox.  IE7 might even have some advantages if I took the time to learn them.  But I don't see anything that makes me want to switch back to IE.

I suppose what I'm saying is: If you're a Firefox user like me, keep using Firefox.  On the other hand, if you were an IE6 user, IE7 is an improvement; so you'll probably want to stay with IE.

out of own experience i say that FireFox 2 is much better than the whole IE family of products (6&7 + add-ons)

ever since i've upgraded myself, i enjoy a very intuitive browser.

my last barrier for using firefox was the loading of hebrew web sites.    now that most israeli sites cope with, it is possible to use firefox.

I actually use both, Firefox on my laptop and IE7 on my desktop.

I think that on Windows 2000 and XP, Firefox is better. I even find the experience of IE6 to be better than IE7, although I can't quite say what it is about it that's wrong.  Probably something about the disappearing menu bar, the tiny non-intuitive icons, some weird behavior of the address bar, and the bad zoom function.

Here are some of the weirdnesses:

- To close a tab you click the X on the tab, but the X isn't visible until you select the tab

- If you zoom in, the page displays according to the full window size in pixels, so you always have to scroll

- click the address bar once, and everything's selected. Click it again, everythings deselected. No amount of further clicking will get everything selected unless you click the page body first. Weird.

I've heard that on Vista IE7 is much better, but I haven't seen it myself.

I guess it all depends on what you're planning to do.  If you're just browsing the internet and playing around online, I'd only use FireFox.  It's more secure and loads pages as they are designed to be seen.  If you're a developer, I'd use FireFox for all the add-ons and developer tols you want, but also use IE to test out anything that you're building.  That way you know your stuff is showing up correctly for the 77% of internet users that are still using IE.
