I have just read about the nine firefighters who tragically lost their lives in a fire at a furniture warehouse in Charleston. I know that firefighting is a dangerous occupation, but how dangerous is it?
I wish to know how many firemen lose their life while bravely performing their duty?
The toll of heart disease is a major reason why firefighter deaths have not declined in recent years, even though fewer firefighters die in burning structures (and fewer structures catch fire). An average of 97 firefighters died per year in the 1990s. But since 2000, the yearly average has been 102, except for firefighters killed during the 9-11 attacks.
It is a dangerous occupation. I mean, think about it, it's not only death, but danger of inhaling smoke, and getting burned, not to mention danger of falling and so on. About the number of people who lost their lives, I think you have to give more details as to the where and when...
