Filter replacement

What is the best filter for my central air conditioner?  I live in SO. FL. and was told the less expensive ones are better as long as you replace them once a month.

Inexpensive filters do not do a great job of filtering. I would recommend a filter that's approved for allergies by filtering out things like pollen, mold, etc. Replace every 2 months.

Better filters will also keep your cooling coils cleaner and more efficient too.

I recommend a 40% pletted filter. A very important thing is the fit of the filter in the return. It needs to fit in the filter rack or grille so that its large enough to not allow any air to bypass but loose enough to be pulled tight to the return air opening for a good seal. Try the salt test with your filter. Hold it horizontal, place one of your palms under it and sprinkle salt on the topside of the filter above your palm. 80% of the filters used today by home owners will allow the salt to pass through, this would be a 10% or less filter.
