I have artritis in both knees , I have had surgery ...

I have artritis in both knees , I have had surgery on one, now the one knee has locked and I might have to have surgery again and be off work for at least six weeks. I work in a CBRF and my employer doesnt know if they could hold my job open that long. Is it possible to file for short term disability?
