In order to do a reliable federal prison inmate locator search you will first need to know if the inmate is in a federal , state or county prison , and of course which state the prisoner is in.
If you do not know which state the prisoner is in you may have to check all 3 (federal, state and county prison) for each state!! This is because government departments limit their information to their own respective states (quite understandably) and also there is no one central free web site that has gathered, sorted and uploaded the combined information for all the States.
Only if you perform a paid search will you then have access to information from all states across the country. This will include info from both government And private sources. Also, some private inmate search websites will use additional databases from court records, county records, arrest records etc. This means that your chances of finding correct and complete information is much higher and your time spent searching much less.
If you do decide to do a private search then some things to note are:
1) Some websites advertise a free federal prison inmate locator search , but it's usually only the search that is free, you still have to pay for the report!
2) Reputable websites have a once-off fee which grants you membership for a year and as many searches as you like, AND as many types of searches as you like (divorce records, property records, arrest records etc.) If a website wants to charge for each individual search then steer well clear.
For my own private searches I use Federal Prison Inmate Locator , they have a very large data base of information and their reports are fast. My past experiences with them have been good - they have supplied complete and accurate information.
All the best and I hope that helps with your federal prisoner inmate locator search.
Cheers
