What type of screw is used when installing turnclips onto a stucco surface. I am installing solar sun screens to outside windows, but when the wind blows,my screens fly.
Be anxious for nothing
I assume there are mounting holes in these screens. You should measure the distance between these mounting holes, it should be a multiple of 16 inches for what I will be suggesting. You will need to locate the studs or 2x4's that make up the framing or walls of your house. These are normally 16 inches apart. You will need a stud finder, get it at Home Depot. You will also need screws called "lag screws" (Home Depot also). These lag screws should be, about 2 and1/2 inches long and are screwed in with a ratchet and socket the size of the screw head. These screws will go through the stucco, through wire mesh, through insulation about 1/2 inch thick and then into the 2x4 about an inch to 1 and 1/2 inch which should be enough depending in how heavy these screens are. It aint worth eating if it dont bite you back
Easy on the lag idea just a bit excessive for this application. Your stucco is about 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick then there is a foam layer , usualy 1 inch , then the window flange used to fasten the window to the framing. If you have a pop-out around the window there will be more foam for that. What you need to figure is how long of a size #6 or #8 screw you need to penetrate the foam layers to get into the window flange or better the stud behind it . Make sure they are galvanized or stainless so they dont stain your stucco with rust. C7
