Facebook making teens stupider?!?!?

I heard this morning on the radio that teens who use facebook are 68% more likely to have lower grades in school than those teens who don't use facebook. Do you think this statistic is accurate?

THAT WHICH DOESN'T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER.

Bull. Reality is, it will usually hurt like hell and leave you with a permanent limp.

I find that statistic hard to believe: I would have thought it would be well above 90%.

Turn off the television and teach your children how to think.

Teens who focus on ANY activity in place of studying are likely to have poor grades.

This is not due so much to the activity itself as it is to the teen's lack of interest in anything other than the activity.

For example: If you replace Facebook with something else - let's say it's a male teen of the 1950's, so let's say hot rods - and the teen spends all of his time tinkering with his hot rod or thinking of how he's going to fix up his hot rod and which girl will want to ride in his hot rod; then it's a pretty sure bet his grades will suffer, is it not?

Bottom line, I agree with the statistic but I don't think Facebook is the bogey; the problem is with the teen and his or her parent. Rules and consequences, people!

The facebook is not responsible for this - if these are the correct figures. A student who will not manage his/her time effectively and devote much of his time to extra activities is likely to have less scores in the results.
