Guys,
Don't waste your time with Tyrebitre. I see you arguing with this person. Honestly, you're never going to get anywhere with someone like that, what is the point? Doesn't matter what proof you give them, it goes in through one ear and comes out the same ear then they turn around and insult you. Yeshua spoke of people like them and gave the following advice in Matthew 7:6, "Do not give what is holy to dogs, neither throw your pearls before swine, that they may never trample them under their feet and turn around and rip you open."
Enough said.
On this day and age it's incredible that people still claim that Jesus did not exist or that no one in his time wrote of him.
The truth is you can prove the existance of a historical figure named Jesus of Nazareth solely by using secular sources, no bible. You see, Jesus lived under the Roman empire which, as does our society, kept written records. Someone was executed, that was written. The reason he was executed, written. By whom and how, written. Someone had a hearing with a governor, written. Pliny the Younger was a lawyer and magistrate of ancient Rome. He wrote of the Christians and how they followed this person Christ. He was not Christian. Publius Cornelius Tacitus, Greek historian, wrote of Jesus. He wasn't a Christian either. There are others but you don't even need to have a secular historian write of Jesus or what he did. Just use your reason. Think about this..
Imagine for a minute that you were a Christian in the first century living under the Roman empire. This person, Jesus, was just executed for sedicion. Your religion, Christianity, the following of this person the Christ, is now being persecuted. You get caught preaching about this person, you get executed.
Would you give your life for a person which was a MYTH? Would you willingly get impaled to a stake in the Coliseum and get torched alive to provide illumination for the spectators? Would you willingly stand in the middle of the Coliseum with your wife and kids and let the wild dogs eat you alive? Stop and think about this.
Why would you do that if this Christ was a myth?
We're not talking about a person living 800 years in the future. We're talking of a person living as a contemporary of this person Christ, whom was executed just a few years prior, and here you are giving your life for him. We didn't see Jesus. But these Christians did. They saw him with their own eyes. And the things they saw this man do and the things they heard him say were so great, that they willingly stood in that stadium with their children in arms and let the dogs tear them to bits.
A man can give his life for another man and he can be called a hero. But to give the life of your children to such a savage end when you can save them by simply saying, "I renounce myself as a Christian. There is no Christ."
Friend, You. Need. Courage. I am not worthy to stand in the presence of such a man. Yet tens of thousands did. By the time the apostoles died, over a million Christians had died for their faith. You would never in a million years do that if the person which you are dying for, which supposedly died a few years before, was a myth. Their deaths and the way they died, are the greatest testimony of all. And through it, my brothers which lie beneath, SPEAK.
Be Blessed.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity (Love), I am become as a sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vauneth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seekth not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth.
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is (Love) charity.
Hi NJOY,
I believe in the creation just as it appears in Genesis. I do not believe in evolution. To believe in evolution would be to call God a liar. That would take away from his glory. The Bible was written thousands of years ago way before man decided that he didn't want to credit God with the creation but decided to give credit to nature.
The Bible says that God is not a man that he should lie, nor is he the son of man that he should repent. Man wants to give everyone their dues, but when it comes to God, they don't want to give him the glory that he deserves.
Genesis Chapter one says that God made every living creature after his kind, the cattle and creeping thing, and the beast of the earth after his kind, and it was so. The word of God also gives an account of man. The word said that the Lord God made man in his own image from the dust of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breathe of life and man became a living soul. God did not make a molecule and say now go split and evolve, but he made a man. He also made woman and he told the two of them to be fruitful and multiply.
Throughout the years man has done everything that he can to discredit God's existence, but each time science proves them wrong because there are so many things that cannot be explained. If science could have figured out how God created man, he would have made one by now, but nobody can figure out the mysteries of our God.
Psalms 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork.
Genesis 1:1 In the Beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepth upon the earth.
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
God has given account of his story, I am still waiting on the explaination of how evolution came about. Also, if science could actually prove how evolution came about, the author of the book would have to be as old as God and the beginning or his story would still not be creditable.
Be Blessed
Thank you Tippy. I respect your view and certainly do not want to argue the point, but I do wonder:
Can you not see that all of nature is still evolving( including mankind) and that the God of Creation is Still Involved in that evolution?
This is what I see, and to my way of thinking this view does not diminish the Almighty one iota. NJoy
Hi Njoy,
I too respect your view. I see changes happening all around us and I do acknowledge that, however I don't believe that the world was created because of an atomic blast where man evolved from a molecure that split and developed into a human race. I prefer to believe God's account of creation. Thanks for inviting me to this question and asking my opinion. It means a lot to me.
How old do you think the Universe is Tippy?
I don't know Dawg, maybe when we get to heaven you can ask our creator.
Some people that follow the bible to the letter, think that the universe is only about 6000 years old. I was wondering if that's what you believe?
I will have to reiterate, I don't know and I do not care to speculate. Only God knows how old the universe is because he created it, so again, you will have to ask him when you get to glory.
The Bible says's it is about 6000 years old. So I take it that you accept that since you claim to be a devout Christian?
