It depends on what time of year you are going and what kind of cruise you are going on. Some cruises have very formal nights while others have more casual evening activities. Check the cruise's website for a list of activities and there is usually a list of suggested attire as well. If it is not there then try contacting the cruise line for more information. You want to make sure to be prepared for everything including some surprise stops! Do you already know where you will be stopping? Enjoy your trip!

elegant evening wear for the first night, elegant clothes if you want to dine a la carte in the evenings.  you can be as dressy as you want on the ship or as casual.  Bright and cheerful clothes are best.  Silks and chiffons for the evening. Jewellery that will match all or most of your outfits. Lots of different bikinis/swimsuits/sarongs to laze and pose by the pools.  Cotton shorts or cotton dresses, skirts and t-shirts.  Very, very comfortable shoes for walking. Sandals/slip for daywear on ship, elegant shoes for evening. Evening bag/s, a good size bag for day. Sunglasses, sun protecting creams. Good reading material, iPod for listening to your favourite music. Telepone cards, laptop if you need it, some first-aid, tablets for headaches, stomach upsets etc.  Gym clothes.  Water bottle. Camera, reels, video camera.  Hat. Favourite make-up as you can be really glamourous.  The whole point is that you can really be a star on a ship if you want.  A shawl or warmsweater to wear in the evenings if you want to go and sit on the top deck. And wear a smile all the time.  You should also exercise everyday as there is an abundance of food all the time and you are tempted to try out everything. Keep a swimsuit or other change of clothing with you as you have to check your suitcases in and sometimes it can be hours before you can have access to your belongings.  So, board the ship and find yourself a nice place to sit or change and be by the pool. As there are hundreds of people on the cruise this last bit of information is very important.
