I have a 3-yr old Eureka-430 Series upright vacuum cleaner. It has suddenly lost suction. I have cleaned out the cannister but it still is not picking up dirt on the carpet.

Check your belt.
Some things you can check: 1. Broken belt. 2. Leak in the hose (Check entire length for breaks.) 3. Large object stuck somewhere in the system. 4. Check all filters (Clean and/or replace.)
Depending on how long the hose is, this can be done easily by sticking a long, inflexible wire, or a mop handle through the hose until it hits the clog. Push through the clog to break it up.
if its an up right there is a intake suction hose that has a tendancy to clog, its located at the bottom where it comes up the backside where the hose connects, take the hose off and see if you have suction there.or just disconnect the hose from the unit and take a broomstick and push the hose over the broomstick to see if there is anything clogged in the hose.remove the filters and then try again.dirty filters will stop the suction
