A bribe is a bribe when you are forcing someone to do something for you, by threatening to do something to them, that they do not want or like.

talico33, I think that is extortion you are describing.  A bribe is when payment is offered for cooperation in cheating or breaking the rules/laws.  A government official takes a bribe to allow something or to do something for someone.  Bribes come in many forms, and they include "kick backs" to customers/people who order for others.

People call giving treats to children for good behavior a bribe, but really it is positive reinforcement, since the children are getting paid for obeying rules, not breaking them.
