Erratic cursor problem

I have a PC running XP and a (networked) laptop running Vista. When typing documents, letters or web searches etc on the laptop, the cursor jumps at random to previously typed words eg "Dear Yedda, my question is .." becomes "Dear Yeddation, my ques is ..". Does anyone know a solution to this?

It seems to be a common issue around the web (I've googled "Cursor randomly jump typing"). If you've ruled out the touch pad or the mouse and if the cursor always jumps somewhere you have typed before, and not everywhere on screen, I would suspect a virus or spyware. Run a full test. I would like to hear if you've find the solution. Good luck.

I found the answer in the Posted answer by "forester" who advised a check on the mouse used on the laptop, and Touchpad. The problem was with the mouse - removing it and reverting back to using the Touchpad only provided the solution. Thanks forester and Yedda - I have regained my sanity!!
