English teacher or CPA?

Please guide me in right direction. I have done Bachelors with majors in English & Economics from India. I have also done B.Ed (

Bachelors in Education). Now i am settled in New york. I am US citizen. After a gap of 8 years, i want to go to college again. I have two choices: doing Masters in English and become English teacher; or change my line and do Masters in accountancy, which according to my husband has more demand and will open more lines. What according to you has more demand and money? Who is making more money: Elementary English teacher or CPA? I might sound very materialistic but I want to take wise decision. I want to make money.

It's pretty obvious that a CPA will earn more than a teacher, even if not at the beginning, for the long run a CPA would definitely earn more. Your husband is right about the master in accountancy- It would open much more options for the future.

If I were you, I would go for an MBA, which is much more broad and useful than a CPA.  You can focus on finance or accountancy, but if you come out of this 2 years with an MBA, you can go into any type of business you want.  You can make money and also do something that's interesting.  I know that accountancy itself can get pretty boring.  Teachers are paid terribly and I wouldn't recommend becoming one.

Between a career as an english teacher or being a CPA:  you will make more money being a CPA.

If you have a burning desire to help people or children by teaching literature or english, you will make enough money to hire a cleaner for your house, and to donate an hour a week to volunteer with your extra energy/time saved, and still have more money than an english teacher.  If that is what you want.

Oh and be materialistic with any job you are taking.  Do not apolgize for being materialistic, having ambition or wanting success.

The goal of any job is to make as much money as you possibly can, so be ambitious.  Earn as much as you possibly can with the time you are willing to provide.

I am going to suggest two books for you:  Live Rich by Stephen Pollan, and am-BITCH-ous, by Dr. Debra Condren.
