Engine squeal under load - Main bearing?

I have an 1985 Vett, 350 w/auto tranny, injected. It backfired recently and now I have engine squeal under load. Sounds dry. I have appropriate oil pressure but wonder if this could be main bearing problems. This is original engine w/only 60,000 miles (yes 60,000). Oil changes every 3000 miles, I use full synthetic engine oil. HELP! 50+ female who can wrench some, but this is new issue in my world of experiences.
