Engine Overall?

Have a 1994 Buick Park Avenue 2.8L with 129k miles which did not qualify as a clunker.  What are the pros and cons of having an engine overhaul to extend the dependable life for a few more years? What kind of money might we be talking about to have something like this done? No major problems currently but just considering alternatives to trading.  If I had this work done by a reputable party could I legitimately expect to have good dependable transportation for say five more years?

No need to fix what isn't broke.  If you currently have no issue with your engine, having an engine overhaul is just a total waste of money.  If you maintain your car well with regular oil changes and tune-ups, you can legitimately expect to have good dependable transportation for much longer than 5 years.  I have a 1986 Dodge Ram that is still running strong, with over 200k miles on it.  http://www.best4health.net

I agee. do not spend any money trying to prolong the useful life of the car. regular servicing and timely repair of "ware out" parts (bakes, tires, transmission fluid, front end alignment, etc)  are necessary.  with regular maintinence the car should go near 200,000 miles.  If you spend a lot of money for the engine rebuild or transmission replacement, and the car is totaled out by an accident the money is not recoverable.  haveing the transmission fluid flushed (not just drain 3 quarts and refill) may be a good investment.  keep the car clean inside and out. this will make you feel better and preserve some to the trade-in value later.

Fear not cause not ain't nuthin to fear nohow!

The technology for the extended life of a new engine does, in my opinion, make it more favorable than in the past.  There are other factors to consider, such as the overall condition of the vehicle, are you "tired" of it yet.  So if you think you would do it when your present engine is ready I would say go for it.
