Using Email to Help 2nd Language Learning?, USA

My students want to learn even the basics of a foreign language. They are amazed that students in other parts of the world can speak 2 or 3 languages. What are some ePALS-email ways to help them teach each other?

 Hi Mike!

I'm from Serbia. I've been teaching English as a foreign language for seventeen years. What I can suggest is first to teach them basic  words or phrases orally. Then you could try with word cards just to help them memorise the words  or sentences visually. That's the easiest way. When they start recognising the words you can include  e-mails. It might take some time, but it works. That's exactly what I do with my students.

Hope I was helpful.

2 thumbs up

Hi, I'm an English in a public High School in Brazil and I love to use this kind of activity to help my students improve learning the language. I use this site and another one too.

Hello Mike,

I am an English teacher in France. I teach English as a second language. We are starting a correspondence project with a class in the USA because I believe this can help my students learn authentic English. Here is the first thing we are doing :

I took pictures of each of my students and put them on a (private) Picasa (Google) album. My students also wrote a short presentation and description of themselves and how they are dressed on the picture. The objective for the American class is to find who is who, to give names to the faces they see. We will give the solution in a few days or weeks.

Authentic communication is the key. This is why e-mail correspondence is a very effective solution for teaching.

Sincerely,

 Yves Gouast
