Electricity meter

Today, someone from the electricity company came to check the meter. Does anyone know why there's a spinning disc inside? I mean, these days everything is digital, why can't the meter be digital as well?

where am I ?

It seems that you are talking about an mechanical electricity meter , in which case the disk is like a wheel which operates the all meter and the electricity make the wheel turn. A lot of electricity makes it turn fast a little makes it turn slow.

They are just now within last few years changing over to electronic meters but Im not sure how they determine who gets one. Also when you are using electricity it turns the dial, the more power consumption the faster it turns which determines your utility bill. It has hidden gears behind the front platewhich are rotated by the large disc and they have a needle on them that points to a specific number and thats how your bill is calculated. It works a lot like a grandfather clock.

"Utopia" on the Mattel Aquarius

Shown here is "Utopia" on the Mattel Electronics Aquarius computer. This is an outstanding port from the Intellivision version of the game. The port was programmed by Stephen Roney of the Blue Sky Rangers. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/user/sroney This is the only Aquarius game/software programmed in the C programming language. I have very fond memories of playing this game with my brothers back in the 80's. We got a real kick out of the idea of ruling our own little island. Today, my sons enjoy playing this one with me. We still follow the same play patterns that my brothers and I did: -cooperate to trap the pirate ships -buy a lot of fishing boats -fill the island with sufficient forts, houses, schools & hospitals -fill remaining areas with factories -continue building the fleet of fishing boats -attempt to get a school of fish "stuck" under a pile of fishing boats. When successful, this can lead to hundreds of gold bars, and may garble the display. (if you get too many fishing boats the game gets confused, and some fishing boats become phantoms. i.e. you can't control them) -With the last few rounds remaining, spread all the fishing boats around the screen -use your substantial treasury to attack each other with as many rebels as possible -just before the game ends, release the pirate ships -watch the storms and pirates destroy all you created!!! Lots of fun Of course there is still pride in who finishes with the highest score. ;-) I had the fortune to meet the programmer, Mr. Roney at the 2000 CGE in Las Vegas. He is was very nice and humble about his work. Of course, I had to take some ribbing from the other Intellivision Lives folks for being an Aquarius fan. ;-) Some one yelled, "Well, Stephen, you finally met the one Aquarius Utopia fan!" to much laughter. Mr. Roney, however was gracious, and offered to sign a Utopia box for me, if I mailed it to him. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to contact him again. Hopefully, I can make that come true! This really is a great game, and it looks great on the Aquarius. Note: I'm sorry I didn't do a good job giving you all exciting footage for this video.
