Eating before an early morning run

For all you runners out there, Do you tend to eat something before an early morning run, or do you just get up and leave?

I eat nothing. I try to eat a fair amount of Carbs the night before the Run though.  If you're really starving take a sport drink, eat a date or something similar.

I would recommend a slice of watermelon, raisins or bananas if you really have too.

It depends on how far I plan on going.  If it's for a short 20-30 spin around the block, I may skip the food (except maybe a handful of granola).  But, if I'm going longer than that, I'll put some food down the hatch first.  More than anything, I find some fluids help get my gears greased up.

When I compete in triathlons, I actually get up really early and have a big breakfast as I know I'll be burning tons of calories over the course of the next few hours.

Enjoy your next run.

Generally speaking I try not to eat anything before a run in the morning. My experience is that it also depends on how long the run is. If you are heading out for a long run (10 Km and up) it may help you to have a power bar or any other food that is easy to digest.

Whether i eat before I run depending on what i ate the night before. Sometimes, if i don't eat enough the night before then nothing the next morning, i find i have less energy and sometimes i feel sick. Normally i'll have a banana or a piece of toast with honey.
