The trains are good value but it tends to take a while to get places. As to being on time it varies but they do try, after a 12 hour ride 30 minutes late is not that big of an issue. The trains are not the same as in Western Europe. Savings on trains allows to splurge on hotels, I stayed at a couple of these hotels in Prague which were great.
